Do you still serve evening meals? Top
Due to reduced demand, we now maintain only an emergency evening menu at Chy an Creet, for the odd occasion on which it is needed. We recommend exploring the wealth of restaurants in the area, the nearest being only a ten minute walk from Chy an Creet. We are happy to mention various options, based on our own experience and reports from our other guests, to help you choose, or to make reservations for you. If you opt instead for a takeaway, please do not eat it in your room as we will provide plates and cutlery in the Breakfast Room or Bar for you free of charge on request.

Do you have a convenient off-street car park? Top
Yes. Our little private car park is right alongside the hotel, in what was once part of the garden. With a little consideration, even in busy periods, all of our guests' cars can be parked so they are ready whenever they are needed. Leave your car parked throughout your stay if you wish - there's no hidden charge.

Will we have our own private shower and toilet? Top
Yes. All of our rooms have their own en-suite shower and toilet with clean towels, shower gel, soap, tissues and hairdryer. The original bathroom on the first floor is also available to guests who crave a relaxing soak in a hot tub, perhaps at the end of an energetic day's walking!

May I smoke in Chy-an-Creet? Top
Not anywhere in the house. Since 1st October 2003, Chy-an-Creet has been a non-smoking house, for the comfort and safety of our guests.

Do you have a colour brochure? Top
Yes. It is available on this site for download (as a .pdf file). You can print it out yourself at home, as soon as it has downloaded. To read it you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. The rest of our internet site gives much more information than we could ever cram into a brochure so we hope you will enjoy exploring here. If you have been asked to enquire on behalf of someone who does not have internet access, just mention this and we'd be glad to send a printed brochure to them.

What if I need to change my reservation? Top
We will do our best to rearrange things for you. The more notice you can give us, the greater the possibility of success. Chy an Creet has just eight en-suite guest rooms so the options at our disposal might be limited, as they are in any similar establishment, but we are happy to work hard on your behalf. We have set out our terms and conditions and we strongly recommend you take out insurance to lessen the impact of an unforeseen occurrence to which there may be no simple remedy.

Do you take pets? Top
Sorry, no. We strenuously resisted attempts by a couple of local kittens to adopt us (they visit the garden for a snooze most days), and regret we can no longer accommodate pets in the hotel as they caused problems for other guests such as those with allergies.. With prior arrangement, however, we are happy to make an exception for Assistance dogs.

Do you cater for special diets? Top
Yes. We always have vegetarian options available and are pleased to make more extensive arrangements if you can kindly let us know what you require, preferably as far in advance as possible.

Where are you in relation to the town centre? Top
St.Ives is a small seaside town, originally a fishing village. Chy-an-Creet is in the residential area in the west of the town, set back from the B3306 road at the top of The Stennack. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk down to the shops, restaurants, harbour or beaches. Not being in the narrow streets of the town centre means we are easy to reach and it is easy for you to reach the places you want to visit. There's a convenience store just around the corner and another nearby. Please be aware, however, that West Cornwall is quite hilly so ask us for advice if hills are a problem for you or one of your party. Many guests enjoy the walk down the hill and take a taxi (around £3) back ...

If I stay out late, will you let me back in? Top
Yes, of course! You will have you own key to enable you to come and go as you please. We just ask you to consider other guests' comfort and security, especially late in the evening when quiet is much appreciated.

Do you open for Christmas and New Year? Top
Sorry, not this year. Chy-an-Creet is normally closed for winter maintenance between the end of October and March. St.Ives has been a popular New Year venue in recent years and this seems set to continue. Check out www.stives-cornwall.co.uk , the town's official web site, www.visit-stives.co.uk (with vacancy indicators) or the Tourist Information Centre (01736) 796297 for accommodation enquiries for this period

Do you give any of my details to other people? Top
No. We use details you give us only in connection with your reservation or enquiry and keep them only as long as we have to. Obviously, we have to comply with any official requirements (a rare event) but otherwise we do not give any information about you to any other individual or organisation.

You seem to emphasise "relaxing"? Top
Yes, we do. We try to make Chy-an-Creet a comfortable place where you can relax and unwind. We are in the real world, so we cannot guarantee quiet but try to promote a reasonable degree of calm which is appreciated by the majority of our guests. The peace is, however, shattered every morning when, with your permission, we service each room (and replenish the coffee and biscuits) between about 1000 and 1300 hrs.

Why are your charges for one night so much more than for longer stays? Top
Basically, one-night stays generate a huge amount of extra laundry as well as extra cleaning and administration. Our prices reduce even for a two-night break but many guests do not realize that it is often possible, for instance, to walk the Land's End Peninsula section of the South West Coast Path from one base, returning each evening by local bus services. The Eden Project, National Maritime Museum, Lanhydrock, Truro Cathedral are all within less than an hour's travel of Edgar's. It's worth thinking about staying for longer than just the one night!
